About Paragon Real Estate Development

SCOTT M. THORNOCK – FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

Born in Ogden, Utah and raised in Boulder, Colorado, Scott Thornock  grew up in an entrepreneurial environment where he learned the real  estate development and home building business from the ground up from his step-father who was a home builder.  He learned the value of hard work and gained experience in all facets of residential real estate development and general contracting that include: initial site selection, project feasibility, market analysis, raising investment capital, architectural planning and design, estimating, securing construction financing, job-cost accounting, as well as project supervision and oversight of the exterior and interior design process throughout all stages of construction.

This passion for building beautiful, high end homes stayed with him and he knew this was what he was born to do.  A purist with a fiercely independent way of doing things, he set out to make enough money to build his own company through a succession of entrepreneurial  ventures.  He started in college by learning to make a living on his own-paying for college by starting two ventures:  the first was a customized word processing business that marketed its services to small businesses in the Denver/Boulder marketplace; the second, a specialized process server that marketed to prominent lawyers in Boulder County.

He graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 1982—having spent the last semester in an immersion class in Chambery, France gaining fluency in the language and an appreciation for the francophone culture.  Immediately following his graduation he worked as a stock broker for one year-and leveraged this experience by establishing a network of high net worth clients, mentors, and numerous business associates within various brokerage firms.

Indulging in a desire to experience a different way of life and driven by an insatiable curiosity for trying new things – and the recognition that he was going to need some capital to start his own company- he and a friend headed to the north country where they sought out jobs working in an Alaskan gold mine.  They succeeded in this endeavor and within 6 months had accumulated substantial savings.

He then returned to Boulder, Colorado where he was employed as the Sales Manager for Computer Services Corporation, a business that specialized in providing construction lending institutions with a job-cost accounting system called CAL, Construction Accounting for Lenders.  He called on industry executives, educating and selling them on the need to have a specialized construction accounting system for their construction loan portfolio.  This experience provided him with a clear understanding of how important job-cost accounting was to the construction industry executive and has served him well in managing and controlling his own current construction accounting needs.

Then in 1987, together with a business associate, Mr. Thornock moved to Newport Beach, California where he helped manage several residential real estate development partnerships, gaining extensive hands-on experience with the daily activities of managing real estate partnerships and construction projects.  Throughout this time he also continued to engage in entrepreneurial ventures, forming other partnerships and taking small startup companies public.  In 1990 he returned to Colorado and continued to work in residential real estate development, construction and the venture capital industry.  He returned to the University of Colorado to get his Masters Degree in Business Administration.  Upon graduating in 1994, he set about to obtain his Real Estate Brokers License, which he held until 2010.

In November, 1995, he realized his dream by starting Paragon Real Estate and Development, Inc., a full service residential real estate developer, and broker, organized for the purpose of raising capital for, and the management of, residential real estate development investment projects.  Founded on principals of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and top down quality in all aspects of business management and product, Mr. Thornock has grown this business exponentially.  To date Paragon has closed more than $150 Million in luxury home sales and real estate development partnerships within some of the most prestigious properties throughout the Denver Metro Area’s most elite neighborhoods including:  Cherry Creek, Hill Top, Crestmoor Park, Bonnie Brae, Washington Park, Cherry Hills Village, Greenwood Village, Polo Club and The Denver Country Club.

Mr. Thornock resides in Greenwood Village with his wife, Carol, and his two daughters, Madeleine and Delaney.  His interests include travel, exercising, bicycling, and collecting French post impressionist artwork and 19th century bronze sculptures.  He enjoys mentoring associates and educating them about the intricacies of the business—teaching the value of starting out doing things the right way and caring about every critical detail that goes into creating something of value.
